The SCRTD bus service has received two federal grant awards to support bus service and provide capital funds for the next budget year.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation Transit and Rail Division has reviewed and approved SCRTD’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5311 budget request for Fiscal Year 2017 for $419,085.90.    These funds will support the operation of four bus routes in Dona Ana County.

Further, the El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization (EPMPO), Transportation Policy Board, approved SCRTD’s FTA Section 5310 grant application for $57,044 for operations and $52,000 for capital for a new Flex bus service to operate in southern New Mexico between Anthony and Sunland Park.    The new service will be an enhancement of the current Purple line route.

These two federal grants total to $528,129.90 in funds that will be matched locally by the SCRTD member agencies, including Dona Ana County.  Project funds will become available in October of this year.    In addition, the Transit District has submitted a funding request in both the FTA 5339 and Tiger grant program that will provide additional transit buses and passenger amenities such as bus benches and shelters.
