Businesses Pump Last Minute Funds Into Martinez Campaign

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Republican gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez has collected $151,000 in last-minute campaign contributions.

Artesia-based Chase Oil Corp. was the largest donor, giving $75,000. Espanola-based Akal Security Inc. donated $10,000 to Martinez.

Also giving $10,000 was Stephen Bechtel, retired chairman of the Bechtel Group, an engineering and construction company headquartered in San Francisco, Calif.

Martinez filed the contribution disclosure Friday with the secretary of state.

Democrat Diane Denish has collected $90,000 in last-minute contributions, including $75,000 from the Democratic Governors' Association and $10,000 from the state Democratic Party.

Candidates are required to disclose large contributions received after Tuesday, which was the cutoff for a pre-election report covering fundraising for three weeks in October.
