Campaign Announcement In Las Cruces-Area County Commission Seat

Antoinette Reyes is running for Doña Ana County Commissioner for District 1, the seat currently held by Commissioner Billy Garrett.  Here is the information provided by the Reyes campaign:

Commentary: Being the eldest in a low-income family and having two children of her own, Antoinette understands the needs of families living paycheck to paycheck and is committed to improving the well-being of our residents. She currently lives in San Miguel with her family. Antoinette received her Bachelors in Anthropology with a supplementary major in Sustainable Development, from NMSU. She’s completing her Masters in Applied Economics with a focus on the environment and natural resources. Antoinette is a direct support care provider for individuals with developmental disabilities and she also teaches students from kindergarten through college as a substitute teacher and private tutor in Las Cruces and Anthony. As a former City of Las Cruces employee, Antoinette helped garner a $10 million bond for energy-related projects, such as green retrofits, xeriscaping, and solar installations.

Antoinette is interested in serving on multiple regional and state boards representing the county on water and natural resources, transit, health and human services, education, economic development, zoning, and public infrastructure.

Some of Antoinette’s proposals include getting the mobile library running again, improving the county’s energy efficiency, emphasizing the need for bilingual materials, addressing poverty and food insecurity, encouraging the county to buy local, and to diversify their banking choices. She is committed to working on streetlights, our rain drainage system, routine road grading, road signage, expanding transit, and more pedestrian / bicycle friendly public spaces. She wants to introduce a Homeless Bill of Rights and add Wi-Fi, public computers, and a printer to all County community centers.
