New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG)
The Santa Fe New Mexican (http://bit.ly/pri7dE) reports that current State Engineer John D'Antonio and former state engineer Tom Turney are included on the list of 22 candidates.
Eight months into her administration, Martinez still hasn't decided whether to replace D'Antonio in a position many consider one of the most critical in the Cabinet.
Spokesman Scott Darnell says the governor recognizes the position's importance and wants to make the best decision.
The state engineer oversees New Mexico's water resources. The office is responsible for supervising the measurement, appropriation and distribution of the state's surface and groundwater from rivers, streams, reservoirs and wells.
