Candidates Will Be Able To Campaign At NMSU For Aggie-Lobo Football Game

Former NMSU Chancellor Dr. Garrey Carruthers

Candidates for political office will be permitted to campaign at New Mexico State University during the tailgate activities ahead of the Aggie-Lobo football game Saturday, Sept. 20. NMSU President Garrey Carruthers spoke with the state Democratic chair and the local Republican chair about the idea earlier this month.

“It’s an election year,” Carruthers said. “And I think it’s an opportunity for our students and for the people of New Mexico to speak directly with the candidates running for public office. That’s what we are here for as a university, to hear different points of view and to exchange ideas.”

NMSU is expecting several thousand people to attend the football game against the University of New Mexico, making it one of the largest events in southern New Mexico ahead of the November election.

To participate, candidates must fill out the campus activity form located at http://upc.nmsu.edu/activity_form/activity.php. The form must be emailed to ca@nmsu.edu, hand-delivered to the Department of Campus Activities at NMSU’s Corbett Center or faxed to 575-646-1946.

Tailgate space will be provided in northeast corner of Lot 33, immediately south of the Pan American Center Auxiliary Annex. Access to the lot is available off of Stewart Street and the area will be marked with cones beginning Friday. Space use is limited to one vehicle and a small, un-staked tent. No inflatables, balloons or mechanical lifts are permitted. For more information, contact 575-646-4413.
