Capitol Xmas Tree Comes To Gallup

By K

Gallup, New Mexico – GALLUP, N.M. (KRWG) An unusual ceremony is scheduled in Gallup Wednesday when the U.S. Forest Service delivers donations to its food bank as part of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Tour.

The tree was cut in California and is making its way to Washington, D.C. As part of its cross-country trek, the Forest Service this year incorporated a humanitarian outreach program into the tour, gathering non-perishable food donations from across California to deliver to Gallup. Gallup was selected because it was recently cited by the U.S. Census as one of the poorest cities in America.

Also, as part of the tour, a Navajo medicine man will offer a safe travel blessing for the tree and the Forest Service members and volunteers traveling with it to Washington.
