Car Strikes El Paso Children, Killing Two And Injuring Two

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A car slammed into four children who were walking down an El Paso street, killing two and injuring two others.

A police statement says the four children were walking south on Dyer Street — U.S. Business 54 — near Fort Bliss in far northeastern El Paso when a southbound car swerved into them from behind for unknown reasons. The 27-year-old Horizon City man at the wheel stopped and rendered aid and wasn't charged. The police statement says neither speed nor alcohol is suspected as a factor in the accident.

Killed were 3-year-old Jonathan Macias and 8-year-old Anne Marie Harrelson, both of El Paso. Eleven-year-old Guadalupe Macias and 15-year-old Fabian Harrelson, both of El Paso, were taken to University Medical Center. A hospital supervisor declined to release their conditions Sunday.
