Cartel Official Arrested For Alleged Bribery

A man convicted of laundering money for the Zetas drug cartel is now accused of conspiring with his son and a business associate to bribe a federal judge in return for a light sentence.

The son, Francisco Colorado Cessa Jr., and business associate Ramon Segura Flores appeared before a federal magistrate Friday for allegedly conspiring to offer a $1.2 million bribe to Judge Sam Sparks. Francesco Colorado Cessa is also charged in the alleged bribery plot.

The allegations came after Sparks sentenced Colorado Cessa to 20 years in prison for his role in spending nearly $25 million to buy and sell racehorses to launder drug money.

The men did not enter a plea Friday. Defense attorney Mike DeGeurin, who is representing all three men, declined to comment.
