Chaparral High Teacher Arrested

By KRWG News

Anthony, NM – A 31-year-old Las Cruces man who is a teacher at Chaparral High School was arrested Tuesday evening after he repeatedly threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and her family.

Samuel Mario Lara, of the 2800 block of Erminda Street, is charged with one count of aggravated stalking and one count of criminal trespassing.

At around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, Las Cruces Police took a report from Lara's ex-girlfriend who stated that she was afraid Lara would kill her, her parents and her children. Lara was at the woman's residence at the time so officers issued him a citation for criminal trespass.

The officers also helped the 27-year-old woman obtain an emergency restraining order against Lara.

Later Tuesday evening, shortly after 8 p.m., Las Cruces Police were again called to the woman's residence after Lara made 16 telephone calls to her cell phone. As the officer was interviewing the woman, Lara called her cell phone an additional 21 times.

Based on past threats, and because he was now in violation of the emergency restraining order, Lara was located and arrested on the aggravated stalking charge.

Lara was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $40,000.
