Charges Dropped Against Daughter In Death Of Elderly Mother

Charges have been dropped for a 68-year-old New Mexico woman accused of killing her 89-year-old mother.

The Tenth Judicial District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that charges against Roy resident Donna Ray were tossed in the death of Geraldine Ray after DNA evidence was reviewed.

Donna Ray's attorneys said the Office of Medical Investigator changed the classification of Geraldine Ray's death from homicide to "undetermined."

Earlier this year, Geraldine Ray was found dead with tape over her mouth and cotton in her nostrils in her rural northeastern New Mexico home. Donna Ray said her mother left a suicide note.

But the daughter was later charged with an open count of first-degree murder.

Lawyers said Tuesday no DNA or fingerprints from Donna Ray were found on any items taken as evidence.
