Christian School Plans 25-Acre Campus In Las Cruces
By KRWG News
Las Cruces – Mesilla Valley Christian Schools are launching into the next chapter of their 36-year history with the start of a $12-million capital campaign to build a new mid-high and high school campus just two miles from the current location on Stern Dr.
Plans for the new 25-acre campus on Stern Dr. will serve 500 students in grades 6-12. The site includes a two-story, 83,000-sq. ft. classroom building with science, computer, and reading labs; integrated technology; spaces for performing and visual arts; football, baseball, and softball fields for their state-ranked athletic teams; and a 350-seat auditorium.
"MVCS have worked hard to serve the families of the Mesilla Valley and surrounding areas with a Christ-centered, strong academic program that lays the foundation for success in college, while remaining affordable for families in our community," said Ivan Stubbs, superintendent of MVCS. "We have developed a program that is unmatched in our part of the state. Our students consistently outperform the state and nation on standardized tests and college preparatory tests like the ACT. Ninety-nine percent of our students graduate and go on to college, and most secure scholarships from colleges here and throughout the country."
The school's consistent success in academics and athletics has enrollment nearing capacity at 491 students K-12. The school has already received donations of just over $1 million in land value, a steel structure for the classroom building worth more than $500,000, water rights for the new athletic fields, and contributions in excess of $100,000. The additional $12 million will complete purchase of the land and fund construction of the campus.
"The Board of Trustees is excited about what God is very evidently doing in this campaign," said Dawn Marketto, president of the MVCS Board. "We are so thankful for all of our committed volunteers and the generosity of our supporters. Without them, the goals for this three-year endeavor could not be reached."
Studio D Architects was chosen to complete the master plan for the site and is currently working on the programmatic elements for the new classroom building.
