City Community Gardeners Win at Southern New Mexico State Fair!

  Ryan Schrader, 7, won a best in show, first place ribbon, a medal and a cash award for a pumpkin he grew at the Gomez Community Garden.

Nathan Schrader, age 5, Ryan‘s brother, won a first place ribbon, second place best in show, a medal and a cash award for a watermelon he grew at the Gomez Community Garden.

“We at the City of Las Cruces’ Parks & Recreation Department are so proud of these boys and their commitment to gardening. Keep up the good work!” said Mark Johnston, Parks & Recreation Department director. The Las Cruces Community Garden Plot was rented by their mother, Andrea Ernst, in February.

The Parks & Recreation Department has three community gardens with rental plots for $15 a year, beginning each February first. The gardens are: Tony Gomez Garden, 2250 S. Espina St, Las Esperanza Garden, 341 E. Picacho Ave. and Sage Garden, 6121 Reynolds Dr.
