Clerk-Elect Krahling Chooses Ellins At Chief Deputy

Lynn Ellins

Doña Ana County Clerk-Elect Scott A. Krahling has announced that current County Clerk Lynn Ellins will stay on board in the office after Jan. 1.

“I can think of no reason to break up this team, and I’m grateful that he’s willing to stay,” Krahling said. “There is simply no one else more qualified to be my chief deputy than my friend and colleague, Lynn Ellins.”

Ellins is a former Chief Deputy Secretary of State in Colorado who retired to New Mexico and was subsequently elected county clerk for Doña Ana County in 2008. He served two terms.

“People respect Lynn for his integrity, intelligence and institutional knowledge,” Krahling said. “Together, we managed the most successful election in Doña Ana County’s history.  The future of the office remains in competent hands.”

Locally there was a vast increase in voter turnout in this general election with more than 70,000 people voting and a 10 percent increase in early voting in comparison to the previous general election.

“This is only the beginning of our success,” Krahling said. “Our combined efforts, including the newly implemented outreach program, the Doña Ana County Election Advisory Council, and increased opportunities to vote resulted in more people voting in the county.”

“With the upcoming school board elections on Feb 7, this will be a smooth transition for the both of us” Krahling said.  Candidate filing date for the school board elections is December 20, and the registration deadline is Jan. 10.  Early voting begins Jan. 13 at the Doña Ana County Government Center.

Krahling and other Doña Ana County elected officials whose terms begin Jan. 1 will be sworn in at a Dec. 29 ceremony in the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center, with Chief Third Judicial District Judge Fernando R. Macias administering the oaths of office.
