Clinton Campaign Wins Support From Educators

Twitter.com/NEAMedia

Education hasn’t gotten a lot of attention in the Presidential race.  But the Clinton campaign has the support of many educators…and their most powerful union.

The National Education Association has endorsed Hillary Clinton for President.  It’s not only nation’s largest teacher’s union…it’s the largest labor union…period…in the U.S.  NEA President Lilly Eskelsen-Garcia says…the NEA is already seeing parents and others join with educators to register more people to vote and educate those voters for November.

Education hasn’t gotten much attention in the Presidential primaries…with one exception.  The so-called common core standards.  National standards for learning designed to make sure U.S. students receive some sort of core instruction no matter they live.  The NEA and Hillary Clinton have expressed support for the idea, if not the implementation.

But some Republicans have used Common Core as a political campaign issue…saying it takes power away from local schools.  And Donald Trump is no exception.  In fact, the Trump campaign website doesn’t even have a section on education.  But it does include a video blasting the Common Core.

NEA President Eskelsen-Garcia says the Common Core should be used as a guide.  And any problems lie in its implementation…the way she says some have used the Common Core to create punitive and often poorly designed standardized tests.
