Cloudcroft Declares Water Emergency

A village in southern New Mexico's Lincoln National Forest has declared a state of emergency due to its dwindling water supplies.

Cloudcroft officials fear that water supplies could be wiped out with the influx of July 4th tourists.

Officials say the springs and wells feeding Cloudcroft's water supply are running low because of the state's extreme drought.

Lisa King, executive director of the Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce, says village officials are putting measures into place so the water system doesn't completely fail.

The village has started to bring in water from nearby Alamogordo.

Around 750 people live in the village.
