Cloudcroft Fire Destroys Six Businesses

By KRWG News

Cloudcroft – An early morning fire has destroyed two buildings housing six businesses on Cloudcroft's main street.

A spokesman for the south-central New Mexico community, Arlan Ponder, says the blaze broke out about 4 a.m. Monday.

The cause isn't known.

The buildings were not occupied when the fire broke out, and there were no injuries.

Ponder says there are about a dozen buildings on Burro Avenue, the main street of the mountain community.

The two burned buildings sit side by side.

Ponder says other nearby businesses suffered smoke damage.

Cloudcroft Mayor Dave Venable calls the fire a tragedy.

He says anytime a business is lost in the village, it affects the close-knit community.
