Collectors Like New Mexico Centennial Plate

New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) License plate collectors are giving New Mexico's centennial plate high marks for its unique look.

The turquoise-colored design with a Zia sun symbol was among 12 nominations submitted to The Automobile License Plate Collectors Association.

Members of the association tell the Santa Fe New Mexican that association members voted and the New Mexico centennial license plate won by a large margin.

The New Mexico license plate beat out plates from Rhode Island and Maryland. The Rhode Island plate features a lighthouse against a blue and pink sky. Maryland's plate shows the Star Spangled Banner with bombs bursting in air.

New Mexico's motor vehicle division introduced the centennial license plate design last February and about 300,000 plates have been sold.
