The Big Event Parade - Saturday, September 23rd.

Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with President and Executive Director of CARE (Cancer Aid Resource & Education, Inc.), Yolanda "Yoli" R. Diaz, to talk to us about September Cancer Awareness Month and the 2nd Annual “The Big Event - La Gran Fiesta…A Community That CAREs.” September brings awareness of 8 different types of cancer: childhood cancer, gynecological cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia/lymphoma, multiple myeloma, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, and thyroid cancer.

Diaz says that “The Big Event is one of the largest cancer fundraisers in the whole state of New Mexico, where the proceeds benefit the local people of our community.” The 4-day event will be held on September 21, 22, 23 and 24 at the Plaza de Las Cruces downtown Main Street. It will kick-off with a golf tournament on Thursday, September 21st at Red Hawk Golf Course and continue downtown at the Plaza de Las Cruces with The Big Event Parade and RACE FOR CARE 5K on Saturday, September 23rd. Entertainment and activities will include: vendors, food vendors, mariachis, bands, folklorico dancers, Wild West skits, fashion show, games, carnival, bike run and car show, and more.
