Community Planning Discussion Next Friday In Dona Ana County

A nationally renowned community development strategist will host a presentation Friday, June 28, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Doña Ana County Government Center on how better community planning can result in cost-of-living decreases, better transportation management and overall improved services to county residents through the Viva Doña Ana Regional Planning Project.

Scott Bernstein, president and founder of the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT), has developed strategies for promoting location-efficient regions, using tools like mortgage lending, foreclosure prevention and transit-oriented development.

CNT historically has worked to help communities like Doña Ana County demonstrate the economic benefits of efficient use of land, water, energy and infrastructure resources. Those cost-of-living reductions can then be applied to transportation, energy, food, water, storm-water management and re-use of materials.

Bernstein also will share the latest cost-of-living data with Doña Ana County residents and how that information – along with better planning – can result in better personal, cost-saving and transportation choices.

The discussion is open to the public and will take place inside the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center at 845 N. Motel Boulevard. For more information, contact Angela Roberson at (575) 525-6119 or at angelar@donaanacounty.org.  You can also learn more about the Viva Doña Ana Initiative at www.vivadonaana.org.
