Community Service in Action - Part 2 of 2

  November 22, 2014 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra continues with Part Two of an interview with Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico (CAASNM) Chief Executive Officer, Dawn Hommer. CAASNM serves over 30,000 low-income New Mexico familes every year through high impact programs that build self-esteem.

On this segment Hommer talks about personal financial plans and individual development accounts. There are three directors for CAASNM’s three of four service groups: Dr. Rodolfo Acosta-Perez, Empowering Families – assisting families to become more self-sufficient through Financial Literacy classes; Adela Trujillo, Family Wellness –she was selected as one of ten honorees for the Lewis Hine Award in 2014; the Child and Adult Food Care Program (CACFP) and the Healthy Kids Healthy Childcare initiative fall under this group; and John Johnson, Bridging Resources – he was recently appointed by Governor Martinez to the New Mexico Commission for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing; the fourth service group is Community Connections - which partners with Coats4Kids; Free Tax Preparation; The Children’s Reading Foundation; KidsKare Health Fair; and Cancer Aid Resource & Education, Inc. (CARE) .
