Concert Planned For September 11 In Silver City

Silver City – Western New Mexico University is hosting El Futuro Del Mariachi, a concert celebrating the youth in mariachi on Saturday, September 11, 2010.

Two concerts are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center Theatre.

At least five groups and three solo acts are scheduled for the two performances with a special appearance by Mariachi Tierra Bella at the 2:00 p.m. showing.

The mariachi groups are based out of Deming with Deming High School students making up two groups, Amistad and Comapeneros. The three other groups, Angeles De Mi Tierra, Mariachi Tierra Bella and Corazon del Desierto, tour professionally.

Local singers Raymond Gomez, Oscar Pena and Jessica Perez will accompany the mariachi groups and at least five WNMU students from the Deming and Silver City campuses will perform.

General admission is $10 per ticket and $5 for WNMU students. Tickets can be purchased at the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Student Activities (MASA) located in the Student Memorial Center or by calling 575-538-6611.

The event is sponsored by the MASA Office, United Campus Ministry and several community businesses and organizations.
