County Extends Deadline To Apply For Zoning Seats

Doña Ana County has extended through April 10 the application deadline for residents interested in serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission, a seven-member board of volunteers whose members review land-use and development matters at twice-monthly public hearings. Three open seats on the commission will be filled by the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners at their April 28 regular meeting.

Planning and Zoning Commission meetings generally last about three hours – from 9 a.m. to noon – and they are normally held on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month in the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center at 845 N. Motel Blvd. in Las Cruces.

Matters that historically have come before the commission include: variance requests to zoning requirements; planned-unit development (PUD) designations; zone changes; community district creations; subdivision reviews and approvals; appeals of staff decisions; reports to the Board of County Commissioners; and recommendations related to amendments or changes to the county’s land-use ordinance and subdivision regulations.

The Planning and Zoning Commission members are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for two-year staggered terms.

Applications will consist of a letter of interest, current résumé and three references, and should be mailed or delivered to the Doña Ana County Planning and Community Development Department, 845 N. Motel Blvd., Las Cruces, N.M., 88007, Attention: Janine Divyak. Application packets also can be faxed to (575) 525-6131.

For more information, call (575) 525-6130. Residents calling from outside the Las Cruces area may call toll-free at 1-877-827-7200 and request extension 6130.
