Coyote Fire Closes Most Of Guadalupe Mountains National Park

To ensure firefighter and public safety, officials from the Guadalupe Mountains National Park (GMNP) and the Southwest Incident Management Team 5 (SWIMT5) would like to remind the public that closure orders remain in effect over the Memorial Day Holiday.  Although the GMNP Visitors Center and the Salt Basin Dunes Trail are open, officials are discouraging visitation due to the increase in fire related traffic in and around the park. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.

Today’s Actions:  Fire personnel will continue scouting trails and roads for use as contingency lines.  Structural protection crews will resume identifying and reinforcing vulnerable areas in preparation for potential fire activity. 

Yesterday’s Actions:  Despite high winds, crews were able to survey the area and identify structural threats. Crews also cleared out fuels from power lines and other utility infrastructures.

·         Devil’s Hall Trail

·         Frijole Ranch

·         Frijole Trail

·         Foothill Trail

·         Guadalupe Peak Trail

·         El Capitan Trail

·         McKittrick Canyon

·         Smith Spring Trail

·         Pine Springs Campground

·         Williams Ranch Road

·         All backcountry areas of the Park will remain CLOSED until further notice.

Smoke Impact:  Smoke continues to be visible along US 62/180 and in Pine Springs area of the park.
