Crash Claims the Life of a Las Cruces Woman

Las Cruces Police are investigating a Saturday evening crash that claimed the life of a 71-year-old Las Cruces woman.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 17, police were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the corner of South Main Street and Amador Avenue. A 71-year-old woman in a Chrysler Fifth Avenue was critically injured in the crash and transported to University Medical Center of El Paso. The woman died as the result of her injuries.  

The 10-year-old occupant of the Ford Expedition, also involved, was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The driver and other occupants were treated at the scene and released.

Traffic investigators learned that the Chrysler Fifth Avenue was traveling Southbound on South Main Street. The Ford Expedition was traveling West on Amador Avenue when the crash occurred. Distracted driving may have played a role in the crash.

The Las Cruces Police Department is still investigating the crash.
