Crews Battle Anthony, NM House Fire

Seven fire districts in Doña Ana County and West El Paso worked today to contain a house fire that destroyed a home in the 900 block of W. Joy Road in Anthony.

Fire crews responded at 10:09 this morning to find the home almost fully engulfed in flames and smoke. Fire districts from Anthony, Chamberino, Santa Teresa, South Valley, Mesquite and Fairacres were called out to provide extra manpower and an additional water supply. Fire crews with the West Valley Fire Department in El Paso also responded.

The fire was contained in about half an hour.

Investigators say the homeowners are out of town, and no one was home when the fire started. The cause is under investigation.

The homeowner’s son reportedly lives in a guest house on the property. An acquaintance of his was the first to call 911.

Fire investigators say three family dogs were in the home when the fire started. One was rescued, one was seen running away and another is unaccounted for. Neighbors were reportedly trying to locate the runaway dog Tuesday afternoon.

Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services personnel are working with the American Red Cross to assist the family when they return.

No one was injured in the incident. The home is said to be a total loss.
