Crews Fighting Signal Fire Likely Heading To Arizona Next

Crews that help tame a wildfire in southwestern New Mexico may be heading to Arizona to battle that's state's raging blaze.

The Silver City Daily Press reports that some of the Hotshot crews working on New Mexico's Signal Fire will likely head to a fire burning at Sedona, Ariz.

The human-caused Signal Fire started burning in grass and timber about 10 miles north of Silver City on May 11. Official say it is now 90 percent contained.

An Arizona wildfire that started in a scenic canyon snaked toward Flagstaff on Thursday, prompting residents of outlying areas to prepare to flee and blanketing the city in smoke.

The human-caused Slide Fire started Tuesday and had burned 7.5 square miles in and around Oak Creek Canyon.
