Cruz Blasts Senate On Debt Limit Deal

Senator Ted Cruz (R) Texas

Ted Cruz is decrying a deal brokered by his U.S. Senate colleagues to avert a default and reopen the government — but isn't planning a filibuster to derail it.

In a statement Wednesday, Cruz slammed the Senate and Washington in general for not doing more to shield Americans from the nation's new health care law.

But he also praised the House for its "bold stance" during the government shutdown and debt-limit fight.

A deal to end the budget impasse in that chamber collapsed earlier this week.

Cruz staged a 21-plus hour quasi-filibuster last month against the Obama administration's signature health care law, helping spark the government shutdown.

But Congress is now set to approve a budget deal to raise the nation's $16.7 trillion debt limit and reopen the government.
