DA D’Antonio Celebrates National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 10-16

LAS CRUCES, N.M. –District Attorney Mark D’Antonio has announced plans to celebrate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) in Doña Ana County, April 10-16.

This year’s theme—Serving Victims. Building Trust. Restoring Hope.—presents the opportunity to highlight the need for services that agencies provide starting at the early stage of victimization. In Doña Ana County, the Victim Witness Assistance Program was created to assist with the trauma and the burden suffered by victims of crime.

D’Antonio said, “Our office is here to provide information, assistance and support during a difficult time. By educating the public and intervening early, we can help prevent both further victimization and involvement in the criminal justice system.”

Every year, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) helps lead communities throughout the country in their annual observances of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week every April by promoting victims’ rights and honoring victims of crime.

In Las Cruces, nearly 40 non-profit organizations and multiple law enforcement agencies will join the 3rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office’s kickoff celebration at Pioneer Women’s Park on April 9 from 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m. The event includes a victims’ memorial walk, community resource expo and free food. The event will also feature a “Kids Corner” which will promote child abuse prevention efforts in southern New Mexico.

D’Antonio said, “We need to identify and reach out to the families in crisis before the abuse happens.”
