DAC Airport Has A New Name

An airport serving Dona Ana County has been renamed as part of a plan to cater to corporate jets and cargo aircraft.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that the Dona Ana County Airport at Santa Teresa was renamed as Dona Ana County International Jetport.

Jetport manager Vernon Wilson says the new name will let pilots know that airport, though rurally located, is capable of landing and servicing jets.

Wilson says he's expecting more jets to land there and a rise in fuel sales.

The airport is adding "international" to its name because it's on track to resume hosting foreign flights.

They were halted a few years ago because the former airport office, essentially a type of mobile home, didn't meet federal standards, but a new building is under construction.
