Dallas ER Doctor Who Treated Ebola Patient Missed High Fever

The Dallas emergency-room doctor who initially treated a Liberian man who later died of Ebola says he wasn't aware that the patient's temperature spiked to 103 degrees — something that could have been a major warning sign.

Thomas Eric Duncan was released by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas on Sept. 26 about half an hour after his medical records indicate that fever.

Dr. Joseph Howard Meier tells The Dallas Morning News  that he didn't see that in Duncan's medical chart. He also says that even if he had, the high temperature would "most likely not have helped with the diagnosis of Ebola" because he wasn't aware Duncan was from Liberia.

Duncan died Oct. 8. Two Presbyterian nurses were infected while treating him, but have since recovered.
