Davis Ad Touches On Disability Issues; Abbott Campaign Outraged

Senator Wendy Davis (D)

A new television ad by Democrat Wendy Davis focuses attention in the Texas governor's race on Republican Greg Abbott's use of a wheelchair, accusing him of not siding with victims like himself.

Abbott's campaign quickly responded Friday, calling it "disgusting" and "desperate."

The 30-second ad titled "Justice" is the first from the Davis campaign to draw attention to Abbott's disability. It notes that he was injured when a tree fell on him while jogging in 1984, then criticizes Abbott, the state attorney general, as working against victims in other disability cases.

In one case, Abbott argued that a woman suing for employment discrimination was not disabled because she had a prosthetic limb. Two other cases cited by the ad have already been the subject of Davis campaign ads.
