Dead Teen's Mother Pleased By Dallas School's Action

The mother of a high school basketball player whose death kicked off a recruitment investigation at the Dallas Independent School District says her son was treated like a commodity.

Tammy Simpson says she is pleased with the accountability displayed when district officials announced Friday that 15 coaches, administrators and staffers were fired for their roles in the recruiting scandal. She said coaches were not taking care of their athletes.

Her son Troy Causey died in March after being punched by a teammate outside a home they shared. Causey had been recruited to play for a high school that was outside his home district.

Investigation by the district determined residency documents were falsified so that star athletes outside the district could compete for Dallas teams.
