Deason: Greg Smith Should Be Re-Elected

DAAC Executive Director Greg Smith

Commentary:   I would like to take this opportunity to throw my weight behind the re-election bid of Greg Smith for Las Cruces City Council, District Two, “The Gateway of Las Cruces”.

As a resident in his district, I have participated with Councilor Smith on his district Think Tank, which met monthly for the discussion of concerns in the district, from the support of the Senior citizens at Good Samaritan’s, to the support of the students and families residing in and around NMSU, This Think Tank, open to all district residents provided a regular forum to discuss and elicit ideas on such topics as providing adequate and reliable transportation to allow residents to shop as well as work and live in the district.

Through his efforts enlisting the support of the residents and historians in the area as well as at NMSU, Mesilla Park was designated a Historic District and the Papen Center and Historic building, with all the rights and privileges thereto pertaining. Mr. Smith has also been active in other environmental and life-enhancing efforts as well, such as the Aquatic Center, and support of our Downtown, Paleozoic Trackways Monument, and others.

And, serving as Las Cruces Mayor Pro Tem Mr. Smith has been active representing and promoting business development and relocation not only in Las Cruces, but throughout Dona Ana County and New Mexico.

In closing, Counselor Greg Smith, through his efforts, has made Las Cruces a better place to reside and work, and I anticipate great things when he is reelected.
