Deming Firm Wins Permit

By KRWG News

Deming – The New Mexico Environment Department has approved a discharge permit allowing a chile and jalapeno pepper processor in Deming to release more wastewater.

Border Foods Inc. plans to discharge up to 1.1 million gallons a day of chile wash water, up from 826,000 gallons a day.

The company is one of the world's largest processors of the peppers.

Environment Department Secretary Ron Curry says he approved the permit after reviewing data from the Ground Water Quality Bureau that showed the company's operations would protect human health and the environment.

The company will monitor groundwater in the area to ensure pollution does not occur.
