Democrats Attack Proposed Texas Budget Cuts

By KRWG News

Texas – The Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee has released the first political ad of the season with an attack on Republican-proposed budget cuts.

The radio ad blames Gov. Rick Perry and the Republican-controlled legislature for the current $27 billion budget shortfall. Republican-drafted budgets in both the state Senate and House call for laying off roughly 100,000 teachers.

The committee said the ad will begin airing in Corpus Christi on Tuesday, and possibly expand to other markets. The group is committed to winning Democratic control of the state House of Representatives.

The state has been in financial trouble since Republicans passed legislation that reduced property taxes, but failed to bring enough new revenue from a revamped business tax. The recent recession has only exacerbated the problem.
