Commentary: “Tear down that wall Mr. Trump! Or better yet, don’t build it.” Jane Foraker-Thompson of The Immigration Justice Network (IJN) says, “If you want to know the truth about how current government policy impacts communities near the Mexican border, please join us at our Thursday Forum – March 30 from 6-7 at WNMU’s Miller Library.”

Grant County Democratic Party Chair, Frances Vasquez, adds “The Democratic Party is proud to join with IJN, the WNMU Library and the MEChA student organization to sponsor this important forum  ‘Fighting the Dragnet: Detention, Deportation and Family Dispersal.’ Only by understanding the issues will we be able to wage a successful fight for more humane policies.”

The forum’s distinguished panel will include Allegra Love of the Santa Fe Dreamers Project; Horatio Moreno Campos from OLE in Albuquerque; and Gracia Rivas, a Dreamer and student activist. The Forum’s MC will be Magnaleno Manzanares, Vice-President of External Affairs at WNMU. Dr. Manzanarez has delivered many important address and published numerous articles on immigration topics including: “North American Border Conflicts: Race, Politics, and Ethics,” and “North American Border Filters: The Economics of Security.“

Ms Vasquez hopes everyone will “stick around after the panel. “We are the Democratic Party, so of course there will be food. Hang out with your neighbors and get to know the panelists.”

Also, The Immigration Justice Network is sponsoring two workshops in conjunction with the Thursday forum, both in the MEChA Building on the WNMU campus near the student union.  On Thursday, March 30, 2-4pm, Allegra Love will lead an “Immigration 101” discussion aimed at educating us on the basics of the immigration issue, and especially at providing information on how citizens can help those who are at risk.

The second workshop will be on Friday, March 31 (Cesar Chavez Day) from 2-4. Horatio Moreno Campos will present “Pathways to Citizenship.”  He will describe how the organization “OLE” helps people navigate the process of applying for and achieving US citizenship.  Both workshops are open to the public and free of charge.
