Democrats Remember Dan Sosa, Jr.

Commentary: The Democratic Party of New Mexico issued the following statement in memory of Dan Sosa Jr., former New Mexico Supreme Court Justice and Democratic candidate for Congress.

"Dan Sosa Jr. was a true public servant. His story should compel everyone to stand up for those that don't have a voice, break through barriers so others can succeed, and fight for equality. Justice Sosa contributed so much to New Mexico and is an inspiration to the Hispanic community across the state," said Juan Sanchez III, Vice-Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.

Former New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Dan Sosa Jr. passed away at the age of 92 in his Las Cruces home. Sosa was elected to the New Mexico Supreme Court after an appointment by Democratic Governor Jerry Apodaca. He served 16 years on the court and ran as a Democrat for New Mexico's Second Congressional District in 1992.

Prior to his tenure on the court, Dan Sosa Jr. worked to protect Hispanic workers from discrimination in the workplace, and became a founding member of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), an organization that increases opportunities for Hispanic individuals to participate in political and socio-economic life.
