New Mexico – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Diane Denish has given to charity the campaign contributions she received from the former chairman of a New Mexico educational pension fund.
Denish campaign spokesman Chris Cervini (SUR-vee-nee) says $4,100 in contributions from Bruce Malott (MAH-lot) was donated Thursday to a nonprofit that provides scholarships to early childhood educators.
Malott resigned Wednesday after it was disclosed he borrowed $350,000 from a political supporter of Gov. Bill Richardson. The supporter's son shared in millions of dollars in fees from state investments.
Malott's Albuquerque accounting firm had served as campaign treasurer for Denish's gubernatorial campaign, but Cervini says that arrangement ended several months ago. The campaign is keeping about $8,700 in contributions from the accounting firm.
