Department of Health Distributes Condoms, Education Information In Las Cruces

SANTA FE —The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) will be partnering with the New Mexico State University’s Corbett Center Student Union and Aggie Health and Wellness Center for National Condom Day on Valentine’s Day Wednesday, February 14th. Here is the information provided by NMDOH:

At least 15,000 condoms are expected to be distributed.

NMDOH staff will be distributing safe sex kits at Corbett Center and various parts of the NMSU and Doña Ana Community College campuses that include condoms along with information about their proper use. NMDOH staff will also share information about the upcoming annual Get Yourself Tested day being held at the Health and Wellness Center Tuesday, April 10th.

Of all birth control methods available, the condom is the only option to also protect against the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis. There remains no better way to prevent both teen births and STDs than through abstinence, mutual monogamy and, when necessary, the use of condoms.
