In Depth: A Host Of Events In Downtown Las Cruces

  Downtown Events Through Oct. 11

  • Main St:

o   “OYE” – Celebrating “Visions for the Future,” Oct. 10 & 11. Begins at 9:30 a.m. on the 10th and ends at 8 p.m. on the 11th. This is a continuous event.              

  • Farmers and Crafts Market:

o   Oct. 10, 8:30 – 1 p.m.

  • Museums and Cultural Center:

o   Museum of Nature & Science – “Planeteers” will meet the 2nd Thursday of every month beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct, 8 will be exploring comets. Learn about comets and watch as a simulated comet is made.

o   Museum of Nature & Science – Grandma Mona’s Science Story time the first Thursday of each month. Grandma Mona reads a story related to one of the many exhibits in the museum. Ages 3-5 at 9 a.m.

o   Branigan Cultural Center –Dr. Donald Pepion of the Department of Anthropology at NMSU will present a lecture “Early Peoples of the southwest” at 1 p.m., Oct. 8.

o   Museum of Nature & Science – “Evolved,” a program that makes circuits through time discussing evolution at 3 p.m. every Friday.

o   Museum of Nature & Science - Nature Kids Program. The fourth Thursday of the month beginning at 9 a.m. Free to the public and registration is not required.

o   Museum of Art & Nature and Science (SNAP) -        Encourages visitors to embrace their artistic creativity while engaging in education inspired by Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics held in the Atrium between the Museum of Art. Oct. 10, presents “Recycling”. Every Saturday in October from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

o   Science Café is held the last Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Free to the public and registration is not required.

o   Museum of Art –Reading Art Book Club. Meetings time will be given prior to the event and is free to the public.

o   Branigan Cultural Center Summer Classes will be Wednesday through Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.

o   Las Cruces Railroad Museum –Family Game Day , 2nd Saturday of every month  between 10 a.m. and noon.

o   Las Cruces Railroad Museum - Thursday Oct. 8 at 11 a.m., Mrs. Prickett’s Story Time. Mrs. Prickett and her puppets read books and tell stories to engage children of all ages.

o   Las Cruces Railroad Museum will host “Zymurgy: The Science of Fermentation,” From 5 – 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Event is free; participants must be 21 years of or older due to the serving of alcohol. ID will be required for entrance to the event.

o   Las Cruces Railroad Museum – Lecture series will be once a month on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Free brown bag lecture at noon on Oct. 13 presented by Ted Hamler and the title is “The 70th Anniversary of American Flyer S-Gauge Trains”.

  • Branigan Library – PLEASE NOTE FALL/WINTER HOURS SUN  1-5 & MON-THUR 9-8 FRIDAY AND SATURDAY 10-6 
    • Teen Game Night – Every Tuesday & Thursday at 4 p.m. for ages 12-18
    • Toddler Time – Every Wednesday & Thursday at 10 a.m. Story Time for ages 3 and up.
    • Read to Me, Every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for ages 1 to 3.
    • Introduction to Computers: Internet for beginners, Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. in the Computer Training Lab.
    • Mother Goose Time every Wednesday at 11 a.m. Activities for infants and caregivers.
    • Banned Book Week- All day, every day, Sunday, Sept. 27 to Saturday, Oct. 3.
    • Rhythm Round-up every Friday at 10:30 a.m. Music & motion for ages 2-5.
    • Library Lab - Every Friday at 3:30 p.m. Stories & activities about art, science engineering & games, ages 6-9.
    • Team Anime every Saturday at 1 p.m. Watch an hour of anime and do a manga or other Japanese related activity for ages 12-18.
