ALAMOGORDO, N.M. – Forest Supervisor Robert Trujillo says drought conditions, above normal temperatures and low humidity levels are persisting in southern New Mexico so his fire closure order will remain in effect to ensure public and firefighter safety.
Camping, picnicking, hiking, biking and all other activities have been off-limits on the Lincoln forest for the past eight weeks because of the closure order.
Trujillo says a significant amount of moisture will be needed to reduce the fire danger on the forest.
However, forest officials say the mountain communities of Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs, Cloudcroft, Capitan and the Sacramento and Weed areas are accessible and open for business.
