Despite Recent Attack in Orlando, New Mexico Republican Offers Gun at Fundraiser

Commentary:  Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico urged New Mexico Republicans to remove a gun from their fundraiser auction and donate proceeds already raised to victims in Orlando. Despite the recent attack in Orlando, New Mexico Republicans are still offering a gun at auction fundraiser which sends a clear message that Republicans are not committed to combatting gun violence.

The Republican fundraiser event featuring Nora Espinoza is scheduled to take place Tuesday, June 14th in Rio Rancho.

“Republicans in New Mexico should be sensitive to the fact that our country is healing from a tragedy that took the lives of fifty people in Orlando, but instead they will continue with their fundraiser and auction off a gun. Out of respect for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and those still fighting for their lives after Saturday’s horrific events, the Republicans should remove the gun from their auction and donate the proceeds already raised to the victims and their families. We should demand a strong stand against gun violence, and Republicans need to play a role in finding solutions, rather than obstructing them,” said Debra Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.

More information on the fundraiser is available here.
