Detectives Investigate Apparent Las Cruces-Area Murder-Suicide

Two people who were found shot to death inside their home in the 2300 block of Mesilla Hills Drive Monday morning were the apparent victims of a murder/suicide, according to Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives who are investigating the incident.

Dispatch was notified of the situation just before 9 a.m. when a female relative went to the home to check on the homeowners, described as an “elderly couple” by detectives. The man and woman reportedly had lived together for approximately 30 years but were never married.

An initial investigation suggested the male homeowner shot the female and then turned the gun on himself.  The couple’s dog was also shot and killed.

Detectives are still trying to notify next of kin.

Both bodies will be sent to the University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner for autopsy.
