Las Cruces – A Dona Ana County Detention Officer has been arrested and charged with forgery after he allegedly forged a signature on a vehicle title.
According to the criminal complaint, Sergio Gonzales, who also goes by David Gonzales, sold a vehicle he co-owned with his ex-girlfriend shortly after they had separated. The co-owner did not have knowledge of the transaction, and did not give consent for the vehicle to be sold.
The vehicle and title were later recovered and a signature on the back was determined to not to be that of the co-owner.
Gonzales was arrested at his home without incident on Nov. 10, 2011 following an investigation.
Gonzales is charged with forgery, a third-degree felony, and was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on a $3,000 surety bond.
According to the Dona Ana County Detention Center, Gonzales is a detention officer assigned to the juvenile section of the jail.
