Dillard: Time For A Change In Congress

Commentary: People in both parties as well as independent voters all are frustrated and ready for a change from the obstructionist gridlocked mess in Washington to a Congress that actually does the work to keep the nation running and serving us all.  Merrie Lee Soules presents a well-qualified alternative and a welcome contrast to the six-term incumbent for the 2nd Congressional District seat.

Merrie Lee knows New Mexico, the diversity of our district’s people, their strengths and  the unique ways they contribute to our country.  She spent her youth in Las Cruces, graduating from Las Cruces High.  She expanded her horizons obtaining a degree in electrical engineering from Cleveland State University with an MBA from Harvard.  Her 30-year career at General Motors Packard Electric Division as chief engineer and plant manager has prepared her well for the still male-dominated world of Washington. She’s a true “outsider” who will not be tied to “we’ve always done it this way” thinking.

Engineers are problem solvers.  We need someone who can work to find answers.  For example, when El Paso Electric proposed a massive rate increase for their customers, including Dona Ana County residents, Merrie Lee worked as a private citizen drawing on her education and experience.  The result was a savings of $7.5 million per year to their customers.  This involved over a year of research and meetings on a volunteer basis.  She cares.  She gets results.  Think what she can do for us in Congress.  Time for a Change.
