A San Antonio man has been arrested after police say DNA evidence helped them link him to the rape and attempted murder of a 15-year-old Colorado girl in 1997.
The San Antonio Express-News reports results from a DNA sample taken from the girl's body led police to 42-year-old Ray Ojeda, whose DNA is catalogued in an FBI database of criminal offenders
Ojeda is currently being held in the Bexar County Jail without bond, awaiting extradition to Colorado.
Authorities in Denver say at the time of the attack, the girl was walking home from her boyfriend's house when she was kidnapped at gunpoint, taken to a nearby river and raped. The assailant then shot her in the forehead and left her there. She was able to later run to safety.
