Silver City – Authorities say a man convicted of cruelty to animals has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals in Las Cruces on a probation violation.
Phillip Narvaez was and taken to the Dona Ana County jail until he can be transported back to Silver City.
Authorities say Narvaez was picked up on a warrant out of Grant County Magistrate Court for failing to provide proof of counseling as required by the terms of his probation.
Narvaez didn't show up in court Aug. 18 for a hearing on his failure to provide proof of counseling required as part of his probation.
Narvaez pleaded guilty in March to a dog abuse charge in Silver City in a case that dated back to 2007.
Following his conviction, Narvaez was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and 364 days of unsupervised probation in lieu of 364 days in the Grant County Detention Center.
