Dona Ana County District Attorney Discusses Las Cruces Recall Misrepresentation Allegations

facebook (Mark D'Antonio)

KRWG previously reported that the New Mexico State Police Department is looking into the allegations of fraudulent activity by the petitioners; we have an update on the investigation.

Dona Ana County District Attorney Mark D’Antonio said that he has been made aware of the investigation and is being kept apprise by the New Mexico State Police.

“I am confident that the state police will investigate those allegations thoroughly,” D’Antonio said. “And it will be something that’s found to be improper or not. Either way justice is served, whether we prosecute the case because there is evidence of a wrongdoing or we don’t because we found out there is no wrongdoing. Both ways like I said, Justice is served.”

He said there are a lot of parts to the case, and the investigation could take a while.

“The matter is somewhat complicated,” D’Antonio said. “Because you have different people with different allegations, and there are several crimes that may be involved, so I would expect it’s not going to be any time in the very short future.”

New Mexico state police spokeswomen Sgt. Elizabeth Armijo said in an email,

“We don’t have a time frame for the completion of this investigation,” Armijo said. There are many facets of the investigation and our agents are looking into all the details. Because this information is very detailed, this will most likely be a lengthy investigation, as we will thoroughly look at all aspects presented in the case.”
