Drug Arrest In Las Cruces

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The Metro Narcotics Agency, the Las Cruces Police Department's SWAT team and the New Mexico State Police Tactical Team executed a high-risk warrant Friday morning on a known felon who was believed to be trafficking crack cocaine.

Derrick O'Kelly, 23, of 1530 Wyoming Avenue, was arrested shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11. O'Kelly is charged with one count each of trafficking cocaine and possession of marijuana.

The charges O'Kelly was arrested on today merit a $25,000 bond. However, O'Kelly is currently on probation for his involvement in a 2009 armed robbery and therefore will be held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center without bond.

The arrest of O'Kelly is the culmination of an intensive investigation conducted by the Las Cruces-Dona Ana County Metro Narcotics Agency.

No injuries were reported in the execution of the warrant and O'Kelly was taken into custody without any further incident.
