DWI Convictions Can Lead To Car Loss

KRWG News – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) Drink and drive, lose your ride. Since 2009, more than 120 drivers who insisted on drinking and driving in Santa Fe have found themselves without any wheels.

A Santa Fe DWI ordinance allows a vehicle to be seized and forfeited after a first offense. But it is city policy not to seek forfeiture until a person with two prior convictions is arrested on a third DWI charge.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports seizure and forfeiture can be costly. The impound lot use fee is $10 a day, with a $70 minimum. The administrative service fee is $200.

In Albuquerque, if you are arrested for a second or subsequent DWI, or if you are driving with a revoked license, your vehicle may be subject to seizure and forfeiture.
